The St. Xavier High School boys rugby team, known as the Conquerers, demonstrated resilience on Mar. 23 by coming back from a deficit to snatch a narrow victory over the SLUH Junior Bills.

Playing at St. Louis University High School in a gameup that was nothing short of intense, the Conquerers walked away with a final score of 12-11 in their favor.

The weather being cold and sunny proved to be a minor obstacle for both teams. Starting off with a halftime score of 7-6 in favor of St. Xavier, the game remained unpredictable until the very end.

Key players for the Conquerers were Seb Nies and Carson Padgett, who scored crucial tries during the intense contest. It was Padgett who ultimately tipped the scale in St. Xavier's favor, delivering the game-winning move that edged St. X over the top with a final score. Jake Schleiff converted the Nies try..

"I was really proud to see how they responded when they went down. This was a great game," remarked Mark Weidner, the coach of St. Xavier rugby team, capturing the team's resilience and the tight nature of the game.

In the moments leading up to the climactic score, David Kuebler raced down the sideline for SLUH, briefly putting his team ahead 11-7. However, the Conquerers wasted no time in spinning the momentum back in their favor as Padgett went over for the game-winner.
